What does this PR do?

Fixes a client-side path traversal: project env delete <project-id> .. --confirm resolved to DELETE /projects/<project-id>/ and deleted the whole project, because new URL() resolves . and .. path segments (including %2E%2E).

buildUrl (src/lib/http.ts) now checks every path segment. If a segment decodes to . or .., it throws a VALIDATION_ERROR (exit 5) naming the value, before any request is sent. It is one check in one place, with no per-command code. Values that merely contain dots (v1.2, ..staging, a..b) are unaffected.

  • User-facing changes are reflected in README.md / DOCUMENTATION.md where
relevant. (CHANGELOG Fixed entry added; no doc changes needed.)

Notes for reviewers

  • Tests (each fails without the fix): buildUrl refuses .., ., %2E%2E and %2e segments; project env delete <p> .. --confirm and ... . --confirm exit 5 and send no request. Controls: v1.2, ..staging, a..b, a. build the same URL as before, and a literal %2E%2E name is percent-encoded and stays safe.

  • Review follow-up (CodeRabbit): requireEnvName also rejects . and .., so create, get, update (including --rename), delete, set-default and every --dry-run exit 5 with no request. buildUrl stays as defense in depth. Tests run every verb x ./.. x dry-run, plus dotted-name controls.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Path segments that resolve to . or .., including encoded forms, are rejected with a validation error before a request is sent.
    • project env create, get, update, rename, delete, and set-default operations reject environment names exactly equal to . or .., including during dry runs. Rename errors identify the invalid name.
    • Names that contain dots but are not exactly . or .., such as v1.2, ..staging, and a..b, remain valid.

new URL() resolves dot segments, so 'project env delete <id> .. --confirm'
sent DELETE /projects/<id>/ and deleted the whole project. buildUrl now
rejects any segment that decodes to '.' or '..' with VALIDATION_ERROR
(exit 5) before any request is sent.

Walkthrough

buildUrl rejects path segments that decode to . or .. before URL construction. project env also rejects those exact names across its operations and dry runs. Tests cover rejected values, allowed dotted names, and requests that are not dispatched.

Full details: Linked Issues check

Explanation

[#667] requires local rejection of the environment names . and .. before URL construction or dispatch. The rejection must cover get, create, update (positional name and --rename), delete, and set-default. It must exit 5 (VALIDATION_ERROR) with no request sent. Names such as pr 12/preview must stay percent-encoded.

Evidence:

  • The earlier direct read of the head diff of src/commands/project-env.ts showed a check in requireEnvName. It compares the trimmed name with . and .. and throws localValidationError. For --rename, the error field is rename.
  • The current whole-PR diff tool was unavailable (changed blobs missing from checkout). The current AI summary of project-env.ts describes the same check, so the earlier read still holds. The current head file was not re-read.
  • Every flag path that calls requireEnvName receives the check. The create --name call site was not read directly.
  • The project-env.spec.ts summary reports cross-verb tests for get, create, update, --rename, delete, and set-default, in normal and dry-run modes. These tests assert VALIDATION_ERROR and no request. The spec file was not read directly.
  • Dotted names (v1.2, ..staging, a..b) are not rejected, because the check uses exact equality after trimming.
  • envPath still applies encodeURIComponent. pr 12/preview keeps its %2F encoding. A literal %2E%2E name becomes %252E%252E and does not traverse.

Unresolved uncertainty: the buildUrl body in src/lib/http.ts could not be read. The file read was truncated at 16000 bytes before line ~1224. The command-level check alone meets the issue requirement.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

Changed areas, from the earlier diff reads and the current summaries:

  • src/commands/project-env.ts: the requireEnvName dot-name check and its comment. This is the fix that [#667] proposes.
  • src/lib/http.ts: a buildUrl check that rejects any path segment decoding to . or .., and an import of localValidationError. [#667] names the http.ts URL construction (line ~1224) as the normalization point. The check applies to all path segments. A segment equal to . or .. is never a valid resource identifier, so the broader scope stays connected to the root cause.
  • src/commands/project-env.spec.ts and src/lib/http.test.ts: tests for the new behavior and for dotted-name controls.
  • CHANGELOG.md: a Fixed entry that documents the change.

No unrelated change was found. The buildUrl body was not read directly at the current head. This conclusion relies on the PR summary and the AI summary for that hunk. The PR objectives mention the Season 4 bonus window; this is non-coding and was not assessed.

Full details: Docstring Coverage

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 66.67% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 3 functions across 4 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

requireEnvName now refuses the dot names, so create, get, update
(including --rename), delete, set-default and their dry runs exit 5
before any request. buildUrl keeps its own check as defense in depth.

@ruili-testsprite this is ready for your review: CodeRabbit's re-review has no open findings and the full suite passes locally. The CI, Test Coverage and Security workflows show action_required because this PR comes from a fork, so they need a maintainer to approve the run.

On the Season 4 bonus: I ticked the box and added my Discord name (rk625_34380), but the bonus bot recorded nothing, because its window closed Oct 29. #667 was opened on Oct 25, inside the window. It was labeled on Oct 30, accepted on Oct 31 and assigned to me on Oct 31, all after the window closed, so I could not have had an assigned issue by the deadline. If the entry can still be honored, could you let me know?
